Hanyang University becomes easier to compare once you put a campus name beside it. Seoul and ERICA share a university name, but your department, application route, course choices, housing and daily journey belong to a particular campus. A good fit on one does not automatically make the other a good fit for you.
That matters especially if you want to study in English. Hanyang has identifiable English degree tracks as well as English courses for exchange students, but those are different opportunities. You might be planning a full bachelor's degree, a research master's, one semester abroad or a period of intensive Korean study. Each gives you a different set of decisions to make.
This guide uses official information checked on October 2, 2026, including Spring 2027 admissions guides. Some prices inside those guides still use a 2026 reference period. Those dates are identified below so you can build a sensible first budget without mistaking it for your eventual invoice.
Seoul or ERICA: start with the address
Hanyang's Seoul campus is in Seongdong-gu. Its official campus directions place Hanyang University Station on Subway Line 2 at the campus, with Wangsimni among the nearby transport options. That makes Seoul part of your ordinary week, whether you want a city-based routine, access to activities beyond campus or a manageable trip to another neighborhood.
ERICA is in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, at 55 Hanyangdaehak-ro. The ERICA directions page points students to Hanyang University at Ansan Station on Line 4 or the Suin-Bundang Line, followed by the university shuttle. These similarly named stations serve different campuses. Save the actual campus address before looking for a room or planning your arrival.
For an ERICA student, the useful question is how you want to live in Ansan and how often you expect to travel elsewhere. Treat a trip into Seoul as a journey to plan. For a Seoul student, compare accommodation against your classroom buildings and nearest usable station, rather than choosing a neighborhood because it sounds central. Both choices become clearer when you sketch an ordinary Tuesday: morning class, lunch, study time, groceries and the trip home.
Full degrees: find the exact language track
Undergraduate study in Seoul
The Spring 2027 Seoul undergraduate guide marks three units as English tracks: Data Science, Business Administration's Global Management Track, and International Studies. Data Science and the business English track require TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 6.0; International Studies requires TOEFL iBT 89 or IELTS 6.5. The guide provides a test-certificate exemption for applicants from countries recognized as English-speaking under its stated criteria.
There are route details worth noticing. Data Science and the business English track do not accept transfer applicants in this guide. Business Administration can be selected only as the first choice. Data Science and International Studies include an English interview. For Data Science, the guide says the Data Science or Cognitive Science major is determined when students advance to the third year, and assignments may be subject to capacity limits. If you have a particular major in mind, understand that allocation before committing.
The guide describes English-track instruction in English and exempts English-track applicants from the Korean proficiency standard for starting the degree. Korean-track students generally need TOPIK or TOPIK iBT Level 4, or Hanyang IIE Level 4. An academic acceptance below the applicable Korean standard can mean taking leave while studying Korean before starting degree classes. Admission and readiness to begin the curriculum are therefore separate steps.
For a four-year plan, request the current required-credit map from your intended department, including general education, projects and graduation certification. The Seoul admissions guide's entry exemption does not, by itself, establish every later Korean-course or graduation exemption. A track label gives you a useful starting point; the completion requirements tell you how the whole degree will work.
Undergraduate study at ERICA
The English version of the Spring 2027 ERICA undergraduate admissions guide gives especially clear evidence for the Economics and Business Administration English tracks. Its program introduction says all courses in these tracks are taught in English. The guide also exempts English-track students from the mandatory undergraduate intensive Korean program and the graduation TOPIK requirement. The college's official overview similarly describes an English-only route to graduation.
ERICA's published English-track entry threshold is TOEFL iBT 71 or IELTS 5.5. Its guide excludes online Home Edition and Indicator results. Economics and business have freshman and transfer routes, with separate education and nationality conditions. Read the section for your intended entry year, particularly if you are transferring credits from another university.
The same admissions table lists Computer Science in English for third-year transfer students. That is a narrower option than a freshman English degree route. Ask how your previous credits will be recognized and which required courses remain before treating it as a workable two-year completion plan. For Korean-track applicants, ERICA's general entry standards differ from Seoul's: Level 3 for freshmen and Level 4 for transfers, with a higher standard for Architecture and specified alternatives in the guide.
For students subject to ERICA's intensive Korean requirement, the first part of university life includes a substantial language workload. The guide describes eight Korean credits per semester for two semesters for freshmen, or one semester for transfers, with exemptions including the English tracks and qualifying higher Korean proficiency. Those courses count toward graduation, but they also take time that belongs in your academic plan.
Graduate study needs a department-level conversation
Hanyang's Spring 2027 graduate guide covers Seoul and ERICA. Start with the campus, department and degree level listed there. It separates general graduate programs from professional and specialized schools, and the available master's, doctoral and integrated routes vary by unit.
The general Korean starting standard is Level 4 through the listed TOPIK, TOPIK iBT or Hanyang IIE options. The guide allows specified exemptions, including non-Korean tracks and a supervising professor's Korean-requirement exemption letter at the professor's discretion. That letter addresses a language requirement; it does not tell you that every seminar, qualifying assessment or thesis process will operate in English.
Ask the department about required-course language, supervision, research-group communication and thesis or examination requirements. Ask about funding separately, including what is guaranteed in writing and what requires later selection. A promising research match can be more useful than a broad campus reputation, especially when you can explain how the available supervision fits the work you want to do.
Exchange and visiting study have their own rules
A semester abroad follows a different path from degree admission. The Seoul exchange program requires nomination from a partner university and normally runs for one or two semesters. Exchange tuition follows the home-university arrangement. The Seoul visiting program provides a direct fee-paying route for eligible students at partner or non-partner institutions.
ERICA has its own Spring 2027 exchange guide and visiting program. Its current exchange language requirement can be met through the stated English or Korean options, with testing, home-university certification and exemption cases explained in the guide. Follow the requirements for your campus and semester rather than assuming Seoul's application conditions carry over.
For exchange planning, begin with several courses your home university could approve, then check language, prerequisites, access restrictions and backup choices. Seoul's course catalogue instructions distinguish Seoul's “COLLEGE” setting from “ERICA COLLEGE.” The Seoul registration guide describes limited seats and first-come registration, and excludes professional and specialized graduate-school courses such as GSIS and Law from this exchange registration route.
ERICA's Fall 2026 course-registration guide makes another useful distinction: exchange and visiting students should use OIA's English course list. A course labeled English elsewhere is not automatically open to them. Practical, laboratory, project or fieldwork courses may include Korean even when listed as English, so confirm the actual working language with the professor. ERICA exchange students also cannot register for Seoul courses through the system.
Graduate exchange students need particular care at ERICA. The Spring 2027 guide registers exchange and visiting students administratively as fourth-year undergraduates regardless of home degree level. Only limited Science and Engineering graduate courses are available with professor permission, and graduate courses appear as undergraduate courses on the transcript. Discuss that transcript treatment with your home program before relying on the semester for master's requirements.
Build a budget around your route and fee period
Hanyang's current Seoul and ERICA undergraduate guides give a useful reference, with a clear date limitation. The Seoul Spring 2027 guide uses Fall 2026 tuition; ERICA's Spring 2027 guide labels its figures as 2026. Both list humanities and social sciences at KRW 5,279,000 per semester and engineering at KRW 6,960,000 per semester. Natural science and specified sports fields are KRW 6,150,000. Arts and music have different rates. Check the fee category for your exact major, then use the admitted-student bill for the final amount.
Graduate costs are separate. The common graduate guide lists general graduate humanities and social sciences at KRW 7,257,000 per semester and engineering at KRW 9,717,000, plus a separately listed KRW 1,030,000 admission fee. Those figures also use a Fall 2026 basis. Professional and specialized schools have their own tables. Neither the undergraduate nor graduate tuition figure is a combined price for housing, food and other living expenses.
Visiting tuition follows another schedule. Seoul publishes KRW 4,000,000 per semester through Spring 2027, changing to KRW 4,400,000 plus a KRW 100,000 application fee from Fall 2027. Eligible partner discounts have their own terms. ERICA's visiting page currently lists KRW 4,000,000 per semester. These are visiting-program prices, so use them only for that route.
For everyday spending, ERICA's Spring 2027 exchange guide illustrates about KRW 1,000,000 monthly with dormitory housing: KRW 300,000 housing, KRW 400,000 food and KRW 300,000 personal expenses. Its off-campus example starts at KRW 1,200,000, with housing of KRW 500,000 or more. These are planning estimates, not fixed accommodation offers or an upper limit.
Keep the payments you must make before arrival separate from the money you will spend each month. Tuition, accommodation payments, flights and any rental deposit may come due before you have settled into a routine. Add insurance, transport, phone service, study materials and spending during university breaks as applicable. If you plan to rent privately, our guide to moving into a Korean apartment explains why the deposit deserves its own place in that calculation.
Scholarships: an award and its continuation are different decisions
The undergraduate Hanyang International Scholarship Program, detailed in the Seoul and ERICA guides, offers selected applicants 100%, 70% or 50% tuition reductions. The current guides describe academic or portfolio evaluation, rather than an automatic award for every eligible student. Freshman awards can cover eight semesters, with a minimum 2.5 GPA each semester to retain them. ERICA also specifies periods for second- and third-year transfers.
Language awards are easier to misunderstand because the benefit can be substantial but brief. Seoul's undergraduate English-excellence award gives a 30% tuition reduction for the first semester at the stated TOEFL iBT 90 or IELTS 6.5 threshold. ERICA's freshman English award has 30%, 50% and 100% bands and excludes students whose native language is English. Its benefit is also first-semester only. A strong test score can improve your first bill without funding the rest of the degree.
The graduate HISP uses its own selection rules, award periods and a minimum 3.0 GPA each semester for continuation. The graduate guide also lists separate science and engineering awards and other categories. Read your actual award notice for the covered fees, duration and conditions before subtracting it from your budget. Our scholarships guide explains how to compare admission awards, ongoing funding and external scholarships.
Housing is tied to your student category
Seoul's exchange and visiting accommodation page publishes Fall 2026 examples for August 29 to December 22. These include female triple and quadruple rooms in Hanyang Techno Hall at KRW 1,260,000 and KRW 1,249,000, a female twin in off-campus Residence Hall 6 at KRW 1,902,000, and a male twin in off-campus Residence Hall 7 at KRW 1,639,000. Allocation is first come, and the program application starts a separate housing process. These prices do not establish degree-student eligibility or Spring 2027 availability.
ERICA's exchange housing page describes twin rooms and four- or six-month stays, with provisional prices and meals paid separately. Its Spring 2027 exchange guide says that selecting housing interest in the program application does not complete the dormitory application. You must apply separately and pay on time, and placement is not guaranteed. Choosing a six-month stay also changes your budget and your departure planning.
Degree students should follow their admitted-student instructions and the residence office for their campus. Before comparing a dorm with a private room, check the actual covered dates, vacation arrangements, bedding, meal costs and room facilities. A room near campus can be convenient, but its value depends on whether it suits the way you study, cook and share space.
Intensive Korean study is a separate enrollment
Hanyang's language institutes offer another way to spend time at the university. The Seoul IIE regular program runs for ten weeks, normally 200 hours at Levels 1 through 6, with weekday morning or afternoon classes. The published fee is KRW 1,850,000 per term plus a KRW 150,000 nonrefundable application fee. Textbooks, estimated around KRW 50,000 per term, are extra.
At ERICA IIE, the independent ten-week intensive course is listed at KRW 1,500,000 including insurance, plus a KRW 100,000 nonrefundable new-student registration fee. Class time is assigned by level. This is separate from an exchange student's Korean-course arrangements, which can have a different fee, credit treatment or subsidy.
Language-program housing also follows its own rules. Seoul IIE housing is offered to new students for a maximum of two terms, with limited first-come rooms. ERICA IIE housing requires applying alongside course registration and quotes a changeable daily twin-room rate, excluding meals. Completing a language term does not automatically admit you to a degree or reserve a later dormitory place.
Make campus life part of your choice
Academic fit needs a daily routine around it. ERICA's undergraduate guide describes buddy and tutoring programs, counseling in Korean, English and Chinese, and prayer rooms and a separate kitchen for Muslim students. Its exchange guide describes Hanmille mentoring with current ERICA students, requiring a separate application and successful matching. These are useful support options to look into before arrival, especially if you want help navigating the campus and meeting people.
For either campus, leave some room in your first weeks for practical tasks and social life. A manageable timetable gives you time to find affordable meals, get comfortable with the journey to class and join activities consistently. Our transport guide and first-week setup guide cover the everyday mechanics.
Hanyang belongs on your shortlist when you can connect a specific campus and program to an achievable plan. For Seoul, that might be one of the identified English tracks or a suitable partner exchange. For ERICA, it might be economics or business in English, a carefully checked transfer route or a department that fits your research interests. Once the curriculum, language demands, budget and housing line up, the campus choice becomes much more personal and much less abstract.
