Choose a Seoul salon by the result you want, your hair’s texture and condition, and the stylist’s relevant experience. English support helps you explain the job. Recent work on hair like yours helps you judge whether that stylist is a good fit.
Maybe you want a Korean-style cut, a color change, or a head spa during your trip. You might simply need someone who understands your natural curls. Start with that goal, then choose the appointment.
Partner disclosure: PIN-AGENCY KOREA, the company behind Korea Unboxed, works with Monoc Myeongdong, stylist Kwon Sol through Parkjun Beauty Lab Myeongdong, and Parkjun Beauty Lab Myeongdong Branch 2. Their introductions below are partner options. Other salons are included using the public sources identified here.

Start with your hair and your everyday routine
A reference photo can show a haircut, color, a curl pattern, and a blowout at the same time. Point to what you like: the layers around the face, the length, the ends turning inward, or the shade. Ask which parts would come from cutting, styling, or a chemical service.
Bring a recent photo of your hair on an ordinary day as well. Explain whether you air-dry, diffuse, straighten, or regularly use a round brush. If you need to tie your hair back or want to keep your natural volume, say so before the consultation becomes a plan.
Hair texture is more useful than nationality when choosing a stylist. Fine, straight hair; loose waves; and tight coils create different questions. Tell the salon about your curl pattern, how thick or fine the strands are, and any color or chemical history. Asian and non-Asian clients can both have naturally curly hair.
Ask to see recent examples of the named stylist’s work on similar hair. For curls, discuss how the cut accounts for shrinkage and how it will be finished. For fine hair, explain how much fullness you want to preserve. A fluent consultation and suitable technical experience are two separate things to establish.
Understand the Korean salon menu
Seoul menus can give you a detailed vocabulary for the shape you want. That is useful, but it can also make a straightforward appointment sound complicated. Services and techniques vary between salons, so use the names to begin a conversation.
Cuts and styling
A cut changes the shape and length. A styling appointment gives you a finished look for the day. If you love a photograph of layered hair, ask how the same cut would fall after your usual wash and drying routine. You may want the haircut without adding a perm.
C curls and S curls
The RE.LABEL.HAIR × ParkJun comparison describes C curls as a bend near the ends and S curls as waves through more of the length. These describe shapes. Ask which process would produce the effect on your hair and what drying or styling it needs afterward.

Digital perms and services for volume
The provider’s digital-perm page describes waves that are more defined when dry. Other menus, such as Juno Hair Myeongdong Branch 4’s menu, list root-volume and down perms separately. Discuss whether you want lift at the crown, less outward volume at the sides, or a different curl shape.

These services exist beyond Korea, too. The useful distinction is the choice of shape, volume, and finishing options you encounter here. A Korean salon visit does not require a chemical treatment, and a perm specialist’s portfolio does not automatically demonstrate experience cutting natural curls.
Talk through color and chemical treatments first
Send current photos before booking a major color change. Include previous bleach, dye, relaxer, straightening, and perm history, even if some of it has grown out. For blonde, fine, or repeatedly lightened hair, request examples on a comparable starting color and condition. Ask whether your goal needs several sessions and whether the stylist recommends a different approach for your present condition.
The American Academy of Dermatology identifies coloring, perming, and relaxing as practices that can damage hair. A service name such as “repair” or “gentle” cannot settle whether a particular process suits yours.
Tell the salon about previous dye reactions. The FDA advises following the product instructions and performing a skin patch test before each use. Ask how the salon handles those instructions before arranging a same-day color appointment.
Where to start for experience with your texture
Use these options to begin a specific conversation. Public descriptions and reported experience help narrow the search; the next step is confirming who will do your hair and reviewing comparable work.
Family Hair Shop in Itaewon for Afro-textured hair
An April 2026 Korea Times report profiles Miss Mimi at Family Hair Shop and describes decades of work with Black and curly hair. This gives readers a concrete lead when a general salon’s portfolio does not answer their texture questions.
For a natural cut, braids, a silk press, or another specific request, ask about that exact service. 10 Magazine’s directory provides a contact starting point. Confirm the current location, appointment route, price, and recent work before traveling; the news profile does not establish today’s availability.
Cheongdam Lovey for a natural-curl consultation
Cheongdam Lovey’s curly-and-wavy service page advertises English and Japanese support and describes dry curl-by-curl or wet cutting, selected in consultation. Those are the salon’s own claims. Send natural-texture photos and ask which stylist has recent results comparable to your goal.
Hair and Joy in Hongdae for an international-client salon
Hair & Joy’s Trazy listing describes English-speaking stylists, international clients, and cuts, color, highlights, and chemical services. It is an option to investigate for a general appointment. Confirm direct availability and ask for a named stylist with experience of your particular hair; the broad listing does not establish a dedicated curl or protective-style specialist.
Curls by Ria is in Daejeon
If your Korea plans extend beyond Seoul, Curls by Ria is a separate specialist lead. Ria’s website describes training through Curly Hair Artistry and Cut It Kinky and gives a Daejeon address. Check the requested service and available appointments before planning the journey. This is not a Seoul salon.
Three Myeongdong partner options
These introductions cover different interests. They do not establish that each provider or stylist specializes in every texture.
Monoc for cuts and a choice of services
Monoc’s Fresha profile lists cuts, color, perms, scalp care, and an English-speaking team. Start with the service you want and confirm the stylist handling it. Our Monoc Myeongdong introduction explains the provider in more detail.
Kwon Sol for a Korean-style perm conversation
The RE.LABEL.HAIR × ParkJun Myeongdong website includes Sol in its portfolio. Its English booking page provides an inquiry route. Ask specifically for Kwon Sol, then confirm availability, the branch address, and how the proposed process would suit your hair history.
Parkjun Myeongdong Branch 2 for scalp-care options
Branch 2’s Fresha profile lists scalp-care courses and advertises English and Japanese. Compare the course descriptions and ask which one includes the elements you want. It is a separate branch, so include “Branch 2” in the conversation and check the confirmed address.
Choose a head spa by what the package includes
You can visit for washing and scalp care without changing your hairstyle. Ask about the actual steps, products, massage pressure, water temperature, and finishing. Confirm whether drying and styling are included, especially if you want your natural curls finished in a particular way.
A video’s waterfall setup or long list of steps does not describe every package. A salon scalp-camera check also does not establish a medical diagnosis or an effective hair-loss treatment. The AAD explains that hair-loss treatment begins with identifying the cause; take that concern to a dermatologist.
Get the booking details in writing
Request the complete price in Korean won for your hair and chosen stylist. Ask about length, product, bleaching, toner, treatment, and other supplements, and whether washing, finishing, and tax are included. Confirm the deposit, how it applies to the bill, and cancellation or date-change terms.
Ask for the full visit time, including consultation and finishing. Leave breathing room before a dinner reservation or train journey. A complex appointment deserves more flexibility than a quick trim.
If online booking is difficult, ask whether the salon accepts an English inquiry by its published contact route. Our NAVER Booking guide for foreigners explains passport verification and remaining limitations; the provider still needs to confirm your appointment.
For a female stylist or privacy while your hair is uncovered, explain what you need throughout the visit. The main RE.LABEL.HAIR × ParkJun booking page advertises private-room and female-staff arrangements. Confirm availability; that policy does not establish the same arrangements at other branches or salons.
Here is a message you can adapt:
Hello, I’d like to book [service] on [date]. I’ve attached photos of my current hair and the result I want. My hair is [texture] and has had [previous treatments]. I usually [drying and styling routine]. Could you confirm a suitable stylist, recent similar work, English support, total price, full visit time, location, and deposit and cancellation terms?
Before confirming, keep this short checklist with your reply:
- Named stylist and relevant examples of their work.
- Agreed result and any chemical process involved.
- Complete price, visit time, and booking terms.
- Exact branch, address, and required language or privacy support.
Save the street address and floor before setting out. Our Korea map-app guide can help you prepare the journey. Before leaving the salon, have washing, drying, and styling instructions written down for the service you actually received.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a Korean-style cut without a perm
Yes, you can request a haircut. Ask which elements of your reference need daily styling or a chemical process, then decide what fits your routine.
Where should I look for curly or coily hair experience
Start with the texture-specific leads above and recent work by the named stylist. Tell them whether you want to preserve natural curls, change their shape, or wear the hair straight. These are different appointments.
Can I book color and a perm on the same visit
Discuss your treatment history and the proposed combination before booking. The AAD’s hair-damage guidance advises separating chemical services. Do not assume a package name establishes suitability.
What if I only want a relaxing head spa
Compare the package steps and finishing arrangements. Explain any texture, product, or privacy requirements, and confirm that the booking includes the experience you want.
