A hand tests a pen in a notebook while a camera records the demonstration.

A lifestyle creator, a pen reviewer and a study creator are on your list. You sell a refillable pen in Korea. A first-time buyer needs to know: “When the ink runs out, which refill do I need, how do I change it, and what will it cost?”

Which person would you hire to answer that question?

The pen brand, candidates and hiring decision below are hypothetical. The example shows how to choose someone for a defined job. It does not assess real accounts or predict campaign results.

Give the creator a buying question to answer

A creator makes content. In this guide, you are considering a person to make and publish commissioned product content. An influencer can affect an audience's choices; that influence still needs to be relevant to your buyer and offer.

The pen brand wants to help people considering their first refillable everyday pen. The intended video explains the writing experience, compatible refill, replacement process and continuing cost in Korean. Interested viewers need a route to the exact pen and refills, with current prices and delivery information.

That job gives the brand a basis for comparing candidates. Someone who recommends gifts beautifully may know little about pens. An expert reviewer may assume knowledge a beginner does not have. Check whether the person can explain this purchase to the intended buyer.

For a foreign brand, the creator's nationality or address does not establish the audience you will reach. First establish whom the business can serve and what those people need to know. The customer-discovery guide places a recommendation within the wider path to a purchase.

Compare three candidates against the same job

A shortlist is the small group of candidates you are considering. Here is the brand's fictional comparison:

The lifestyle creator

  • Why they might fit: Strong visual storytelling and thoughtful gift recommendations, with the largest audience in this example.
  • What remains to check: Whether recent viewers consider products at the actual price and whether the proposed format gives the refill process enough attention.
  • Best assignment: Introduce the pen as a considered gift while explaining what the recipient needs afterward.

The pen reviewer

  • Why they might fit: Clear demonstrations of writing tools and maintenance, including replacing refills.
  • What remains to check: Whether recent work welcomes first-time owners and reaches people the brand can serve.
  • Best assignment: Help a beginner understand the writing experience and ongoing ownership, with useful comparisons.

The study creator

  • Why they might fit: Shows desk routines in which a pen is used repeatedly, and viewers ask about the tools.
  • What remains to check: Whether the product and price suit those viewers, and whether the content answers the refill question.
  • Best assignment: Demonstrate everyday use in a study routine while explaining the practical upkeep.

The pen reviewer is the strongest person to speak with first for the beginner-refill assignment. That is a provisional choice: a preference that can change after checking the evidence and terms. A gift campaign could favor the lifestyle creator instead.

Read the audience report before relying on the percentage

The audience is the people who watch or read the content. A follower or subscriber count does not show that everyone follows every post, lives in Korea or is considering this pen.

Ask for recent aggregated screenshots or report exports for the proposed account and comparable work. Keep the account, reporting dates, content format, filters and named measure visible. A metric is the thing being measured, such as views or time spent watching.

Watch time is the total time spent watching. YouTube's audience documentation says Top geographies reports where the channel receives the most watch time. If a hypothetical report assigns 70% of 100 minutes to Korea, that means 70 minutes in that measure. It does not mean 70 of 100 people, subscribers or Korean residents.

Geography concerns where viewers were located. It does not establish nationality, permanent residence or willingness to buy. Ask what the report covers rather than changing its meaning to fit the sales proposal.

Some information may be missing. YouTube's limited-data guidance explains that a row can be hidden while still contributing to a total. Do not assume the visible country rows describe the complete audience or invent the missing breakdown.

Review comparable work across an agreed recent period, including ordinary results. One unrelated viral video is weak support for forecasting a pen demonstration. Data for a different account or format leaves the proposed audience unverified.

Request only aggregated information useful to the choice. You do not need viewers' private profiles or messages. Korean-language comments can suggest questions to investigate, but they do not prove where commenters live or whether they will buy.

Watch the explanation, not just the report

Audience evidence shows part of the fit. The work itself shows whether the creator can help this buyer understand the product.

Ask the pen reviewer to point to a comparable piece and describe how they would explain your refill. The proposed demonstration could show writing with the pen, removing the used refill, identifying the compatible replacement, installing it and writing again.

The brand supplies the exact model, instructions, compatible refill and a dated factual reference. The creator can describe writing feel as their own experience. Compatibility, availability and price need checking against the actual product and offer.

You are asking for their approach, not an unpaid finished script. Do they welcome beginners? Can a viewer see where to find the refill code and current price? Will the creator identify a limitation after trying the product?

A proposed explanation that skips the refill change would weaken the preference. Ask how the reviewer would make it clear. If they cannot explain the maintenance to a beginner, remove them from this shortlist for this assignment.

Old audience data or refusal to show relevant aggregated evidence means the choice remains uncertain. A proposal built around unsupported product claims or concealed payment is a reason to reject the collaboration.

Ask six questions in the first conversation

Use the same questions with each candidate so you compare the same work:

  • Audience evidence: “Which recent reports can you share for comparable work, with the account, dates, format, metric and geography visible? What data is missing?”
  • Comparable explanation: “Which recent piece best shows you helping a beginner understand a product like this? Why is it comparable?”
  • Approach: “How would you show the compatible refill, the change and the later purchase? What would you need from us?”
  • Complete fee: “What is the total for production, publication, agreed corrections, reporting and applicable taxes? Which requests cost extra?”
  • Reuse: “What permission, period and fee apply if we repost, advertise with, edit or translate the content? Where could those versions appear?”
  • Disclosure: “How will viewers understand that we paid for the work and supplied the pen? What will you show for this format, and which platform steps are separate?”

Reuse means using the commissioned content again, perhaps on the brand's account or in an advertisement. Do not assume the publication fee includes every later use. Agree the actual assets, places, period and edits before treating a proposal as affordable.

The initial comparison should be about whom to hire. After choosing, the creator-brief guide helps turn the assignment and permissions into clear working terms.

Check disclosure with the actual Korean format

Disclosure means telling the audience about a relevant commercial relationship so they can judge the recommendation. Korea's KFTC endorsement guidelines, effective June 1, 2026, address truthful recommendations and relevant economic relationships. KFTC means Korea Fair Trade Commission.

The guidelines explain how people should be able to find, recognize and understand the relationship, with language and format guidance. Ask the creator to show the proposed presentation for the actual video. One label or placement is not a universal answer for every campaign.

YouTube's paid-promotion process is a separate platform check. Its notice does not automatically settle the legal duties. If the campaign targets other markets or a regulated product category, check those requirements too before committing.

Compare the complete commitment

A production-and-publication proposal and one including advertising reuse buy different work. Compare the same deliverables and rights, not just the first number on each quote.

Include the brand's sample, shipping, review time, product-page preparation and customer support. If the creator must avoid competing brands, define that request and its duration. These costs and restrictions can change which collaboration the business can sustain.

Check the next step the viewer will encounter. Are the exact pen and refills available? Does the Korean page explain compatibility, total price and delivery? A strong demonstration still needs a workable offer behind its link.

Finish with a conditional hiring decision

The pen brand's completed hypothetical decision note can read:

“We prefer the pen reviewer for one Korean-language beginner demonstration, subject to recent relevant audience evidence, a clear refill explanation, the total fee and suitable disclosure arrangements. The first project covers production and publication on the agreed account. Brand reuse needs separately agreed permission. We will reject this choice if the reviewer cannot explain the refill to a beginner or will not present the paid relationship clearly.”

The decision names the job, reason, conditions and evidence that would change it. It leaves the other creators available for assignments they suit better.

After hiring, agree the brief and reporting. Views show attention; questions may show interest or missing information; purchases show choices under the offer. Selecting a promising creator establishes none of those outcomes. The campaign-measurement guide covers the later review.

Take your own shortlist and name one buying question. Ask each candidate for the evidence and approach that would answer it, then write why you would hire them and what could change your choice.
